Quarter 1 – Collaborative Art/Line and Shape

 

Collaborative Class Paper Plate Fish (1-2 class periods)

  • Students will design a paper plate using crayon-resist watercolor technique

  • Experiment with lines

  • Compare varied lines

Birch Tree Watercolor (2-3 class periods)

  • Paint with watercolor and tempera paint

  • Print using brayers and ink

Quarter 2 – Color (Color Wheel, Tints, Shades, Emotions)

 

Color Wheel Teddy Bear (2 class periods)

  • Paint with tempera paint

  • Create a color wheel with primary and secondary colors

  • Define artwork based on the processes and media used

 

Giraffe Paintings (3 class periods)

  • Classify colors within families (tints and shades)

  • Paint with tempera paint

  • Experiment with lines, shapes and proportions

 

Andy Warhol Photos with Color Schemes (2 class periods)

  • Explore human emotions and personal ties with photography

  • Explore computer imagery

  • Explain how artists communicate ideas through art

Quarter 3 – Texture and Sculpture

 

Collage Sandwich (2 class periods)

  • Manipulate paper in a variety of ways

  • Create a collage with competing texture

  • Define artwork based on the processes and media used

Clay Owls (2 class periods)

  • Create a clay sculpture with texture

  • Experiment with lines, shapes and proportions

  • Use competing textures

  • Sketch to plan

  • Define artwork based on the processes and media used

 

Sunset Watercolor African Figures (3 class periods)

  • Collage with fabric, paper and textures

  • Analyze the effect of various media to depict similar objects

  • Analyze balance, proportion, rhythm and unity in a composition

  • Identify abstract works of art

  • Describe art used for cultural traditions, celebrations or leisure

 

Ocean with Boat  (3 class periods)

  • Examine the importance of western settlers depicted in art

  • Represent objects and space, illustrate value and create visual rhythm

  • Classify colors within color families (tints and shades of blue)

Quarter 4 – Realistic, Abstract and Non-Representational Art/Personal Expression

 

Blanket Weaving (3 class periods)

  • Collage with paper and textures

  • Create portraits of a personal event

  • Interpret the artist’s story through works of art

 

Oil Pastel Picasso Face Collage  (2 class periods)
